The Boat
Arian is the last of her kind. An old style scooner built in the timeless tradition of the master sailors of the Aegean Sea. She is built exactly as her ancestors were for hundreds of years. Even her sails are hoisted by hand, without mechanical winches. Sailing on board her is to be transported to a magical world that can no longer be experienced by modern yachts. It is truly an unforgettable experience.
The Captain
Arian's captain and original owner since 1985 is a larger than life figure, right out of an old mariners tale. Ahmed Chappari-Rassi is a poet and a horse whisperer who fell in love with sailing after arriving in Greece from his native Iran 50 years ago. He had Arian built in the island of Spetses by the most reputed craftmen in the Meditterranean following designs and traditions of 20th generation ship builders. Ahmed insists on sailing Arian the old way and the lucky passengers are the winners of this respect for tradition.
The trips
Arian travels daily from its home port in Kardamena, Kos to neighboring islands. Trips are either half or full day and space is limited to a maximum of 10 passangers. Captain Ahmed not only welcomes but encourages passengers to operate the boat with him and learn the ropes as part of his crew. Those who prefer to enjoy the scenery can just do so.
The destinations
For the current season of 2023, until the end of October, we will be making daily trips from the port of Kardamena on Kos to the islands of Gyali, Nysiros and Tilos respectively.
